Isle Abbotts - Bell Ringers
Bell ringer
We have a small but enthusiastic band of ringers, who try to ring for every service, plus festive occasions such as Plough Sunday, Easter Sunday, Rogation Sunday, Patronal Festival, Harvest Festival, Christmas Carol Service and Christmas Day.  On Friday 21st April we rang to celebrate the Queen’s 80th birthday

We have learnt to ring Plain Hunt, Titums,
Queens and Cloisters and are eager to learn new methods in the future.  Problems sometimes arise during the summer when members are either on holiday or harvesting, so new members are always welcome to boost our numbers.
We try to have an outing each year – last year we went to the parish church in Lyme Regis where we had the experience of ringing in a church with 10 bells (St Mary’s, Isle Abbotts has six).  Also, we tried the Ellacombe chimes (a different way of ringing bells) as we are considering restoring the Ellacombe chimes at Isle Abbotts.  This was obviously hungry and thirsty work and so we retired to the local hostelry for refreshments afterwards.

Our practice night is Thursday, starting at 7.30pm, but unfortunately we are unable to ring for a few weeks due to the restoration work being carried out on the tower.  So we are visiting other local towers to keep in practice and learn new methods.  We have a wedding to ring for in August, so must practice as much as possible before then.

See the link below for a brief history of the bells hung at Isle Abbotts and if you feel inspired to join us and try your hand at this ancient but fascinating hobby please contact our Tower Captain, John Lucas 281556 or our Secretary, Linda Welch 281172.
